about
Welcome to 'Lazy Animals' shop!
My name is Ayelet Gazit. I live in Tel Aviv, Israel, and have a background in fine art and graphic design. In recent years I have become more and more fascinated with soft and slow crafts.
Lazy Animals, my little wool creatures, and their habitats are handmade with natural, eco-friendly materials. The process of making them combines two of my favorite crafts: knitting and needle-felting, both very slow and meditative activities.
I hope that when you look at them, hold them or wear them on your fingers, they׳ll project some of the energy created by the repetitive work of my own fingers. They hold within them not only the time it took me to create them, but also the thoughts I had or the day-dreams I fell into while knitting and needle-felting them.
The
wonderful people of 'Shikum Aher', a rehabilitation center for people
with special needs, help me out in hand-knitting and day-dreaming.
Lazy Animals come in pairs or small families. After a busy day of puppet play, they can return to their home, a mobile or shadow box, made of reclaimed vintage sewing boxes carefully picked in flea markets and thrift stores. When hanged on the wall, they make a unique addition to a nursery or room decor.
The empty space left for your fingers is ready to be filled with your own thoughts and ideas, and come alive.
